Getting to the slopes from the condo
If you want to ski Mammoth from Eagle Lodge, you're starting in the right spot: the condo is minutes from Eagle Lodge and Eagle Express (Chair 15). Mammoth describes Eagle as its base area closest to town, and it links to Canyon Lodge and the steeper terrain of Lincoln Mountain.
The free ESTA shuttle saves the most hassle. Free ESTA shuttle stop 48, on the Green Line, is a short walk from the condo. The Green Line loops between Eagle Lodge and downtown at Meridian Boulevard and Old Mammoth Road every 15 minutes, 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. At Eagle Lodge you can switch to the Yellow Line for The Village (every 20 minutes, 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM). Before Eagle and Canyon open, ESTA runs early-season combo routes that also stop at 48, including a Blue/Green Combo every 30 minutes linking Eagle, The Village and Canyon Lodge. Winter routes typically run mid-November through late April, but each line starts and stops on its own dates depending on conditions, so check ESTA's real-time info before you head out.
By car, the Village Gondola is about 4 minutes away. It's a free, winter-only ride from The Village up to Canyon Lodge. The Village has some free 2-hour spaces and a paid general lot, so the shuttle is often the simpler way there.
Main, Canyon and Eagle lodges all have free general parking, plus paid Preferred Parking on a first-come basis. Lots typically open at 6 AM, and overnight parking is prohibited in every Mammoth lot in winter. At the condo you have unassigned parking for up to two vehicles, first come, first served (display the passes left inside). From November 1 through April 30, town streets are no-parking unless signs say otherwise, so plan on two cars at most.

Which lodge to use when
Mammoth is targeting Friday, November 13, 2026 for opening day, conditions permitting. Its ski school schedule lists Main Lodge opening November 13, Canyon Lodge November 21 and Eagle Lodge December 11, when Eagle's rental shop opens too. Until Eagle opens, use Main Lodge (about 4 miles up from The Village) or, once Canyon is open, ride the Village Gondola up to it.
- Eagle Lodge: Mammoth calls it a great home base for families and groups, with gentle beginner terrain, first-timer and beginner lessons for ages 3 and up, rentals, and food at Fowl Language and The Daily Grind.
- Canyon Lodge: reached by the Village Gondola, with lessons for every level, the Lesson + Child Care package for ages 3-4, and what Mammoth calls the best après party around.
- Main Lodge: a gondola straight to the summit and terrain for every level. The free Red Line runs there from town every 20 minutes, 7 AM to 5:30 PM.
Mammoth Mountain basics and 2026-27 passes
Mammoth tops out at 11,053 feet, with 3,100 vertical feet, 3,500+ skiable acres, 25 lifts and 180 named trails. Thirteen percent of the terrain is rated easiest and 29% slightly difficult; the rest is harder. The mountain averages about 350 inches of snow a year, and the season typically runs November to June.
The full Ikon Pass is unlimited at Mammoth with no blackouts. Ikon Base and Ikon Session passes are blacked out at Mammoth December 26-30, 2026; January 16-17, 2027; and February 13-14, 2027. Mammoth isn't part of the 2026-27 Mountain Collective lineup. Without a pass, buy online: in August, SnowBrains reported a $269 window price for Saturday, December 26, 2026, versus $209 online. Prices can change, so check before you book.
Beginners and kids
Mammoth's ski school teaches ages 3 and up. Kids must be fully potty trained, and helmets and eye protection are required for kids 3-14 in ski school. Eagle teaches first-timer and beginner lessons only. For intermediate or advanced adult groups, or group snowboard lessons for ages 3–4, book at Main or Canyon. Book early, since popular times fill.
For a non-ski afternoon, Woolly's Tube Park sits about halfway between The Village and Main Lodge on Minaret Road. It's scheduled to open November 20, 2026 and to run daily from December 11 through April 11, 2027, generally 10 AM to 4 PM (5 PM from February 1). Riders must be at least 42 inches tall, everyone needs a signed waiver, and booking online in advance is recommended.
Nordic skiing and snowshoeing in the Lakes Basin
Next to Tamarack Lodge, the Tamarack Cross-Country Ski Center grooms 19+ miles (30+ km) of trails for skiing and snowshoeing, with rentals at The Yurt. It's scheduled to open November 16, 2026 and run daily through April 16, 2027. Free 90-minute naturalist snowshoe tours leave at 10:30 AM Friday through Sunday and on holiday Mondays (snowshoes aren't included, but you can rent them at The Yurt). There are also guided full moon and sunset snowshoe tours. Ikon holders save 20% on trail day passes, and a free Public Access Trail follows Lake Mary Road. Twin Lakes is about 10–15 minutes by car, or take the free Orange Line from The Village every 30 minutes.

Rentals: delivered or at the base
Grand Welcome guests get 20% off at Black Tie Ski & Bike Rentals (ask Grand Welcome how to redeem when you book); the shop is about 3 minutes away. Black Tie delivers rental gear, does in-room fittings and offers slope-side help; daily winter hours are 7:30 AM to 7 PM, shorter in the shoulder season. To rent on the hill, Mammoth's Eagle Lodge Rental & Demo at the base of Chair 15 (opening December 11) offers free overnight gear check if you've reserved rentals for the next day, and you can return gear at any base lodge.
Après and dining a few minutes away
- The Stove (about 3 minutes): a Mammoth breakfast tradition for more than 40 years, open daily 7 AM to 2 PM.
- Looney Bean (about 4 minutes): roasting its own coffee and baking pastries in house since 1992; open daily 6 AM to 5 PM.
- Mammoth Brewing Co. and The EATery: at Main Street and Minaret Road. Tasting room from 10 AM, EATery from 11:30 AM; no reservations.
- The Village: Vulcania, Apricity and The Patty Shack. In past winters free evening trolleys have linked Old Mammoth, Eagle Lodge, The Village and Canyon Lodge every 30 minutes, so nobody has to drive; check estransit.com for 2026-27 times.
Driving to Mammoth in winter
From Southern California, take I-5 to SR-14 to US-395 north, then SR-203 into town (300-375 miles). From Nevada and Lake Tahoe, it's about 165 miles south on 395. In winter, Mammoth routes San Francisco drivers over I-80, US-50 and Kingsbury Grade to 395 rather than through Yosemite.
Caltrans chain controls come in three levels. R-1 exempts cars and light trucks under 6,000 pounds with snow tires on at least two drive wheels. R-2 exempts four-wheel and all-wheel drive vehicles only with snow-tread tires on all four wheels, and they must still carry traction devices. R-3 means chains for everyone. Check Caltrans QuickMap or call 800-427-7623 before you leave, keep the tank full, pack water, food and blankets, and pocket a spare key while you chain up.

What the 2026-27 snow outlook says
On October 8, NOAA's Climate Prediction Center said a strong-to-very-strong El Niño is likely through January-March 2027. NOAA's winter outlook, issued October 15, leans wetter across the southern U.S. from California to Florida and favors warmer-than-average temperatures in northern California. It doesn't forecast snowfall or single out the Eastern Sierra. Treat it as a hint, not a promise, and watch the Mountain Report.
Making the condo work for a ski trip
- Laundry: the in-unit Electrolux washer and dryer handle base layers and socks between ski days.
- Bathrooms: two ensuite tub/showers plus a hall walk-in shower mean shorter waits for a hot shower after the lifts close.
- Stairs: it's a two-level walk-up, so pack gear in bags you can carry.
- Heat: the condo is heated, with a heater in every bathroom for warm after-ski showers; the fireplace is not available for guest use.
- Timing: check-in is 4 PM, checkout 10 AM. You can still ski your last day; Eagle's general lot is free (just not overnight).
- Kitchen: it's fully equipped, but bring salt, pepper and cooking oil.
- Wi-Fi: mountain connectivity varies, so save ticket and rental barcodes to your phone before you head out.
